Am I over-exercising my 9 month old springer?

Hi, I've an adorable 9 month old springer, who we rescued a month or so ago.
She's taken for a 45 min road walk in the morning, then my
Partner takes her for a couple of walks later in the day,
including a long walk over the downs. She seems happy and always raring to go,
but am worried that we're over doing the exercise at this age. Especially as the rule
of thumb appears to be 5 mins per age month. Anyone got any views on this?? Thanks

I have a 10 month old who gets a small walk 10-15 mins morning and evening and a main walk of 45- 60 mins usually early afternoon - I find she needs less time out if she finds a friend to play with in the park.

Overexcercise = damaged joints NEW

At 9 months 45mins twice a day is the maximum I have allowed my last 2. We didn't do this with our first springer and she suffered from a relatively early age with very badly damaged joints and arthritis.

A springer at any age will run as long as you let it. If you do lots of training to exercise the brain the dog will be tired and should settle, you can also take them out to new situations where they're not doing anything, just looking can be tiring too.

We also found that it is possible to overtire a young springer and then they just won't settle.

You are right in saying 5 minutes per age.....twice a day. Anything more than this will be damaging their joints as they're not fully developed. Springers want to please you and will do go for miles but later on in life they will need costly surgery to replace worn joints. Try exercising their brains by trainibg tricks etc....a tired brain = a tired puppy.

I don't think it's possible! Especially if it's only a walk. My husband walks our 1.5 year old Springer 4 times a day if he doesn't get a chance to run with her, and it's definitely not enough. She is used to running 3 - 7 miles, and gets very annoyed at him if he puts his sneakers on and then doesn't take her for a run.
