	Black Jack the springer spaniel puppy by Nicola (Bridport) My own springer Rachel Rose had a litter of puppies - 4 in total - the vet checked her out and said there were no more puppies, and said we could all go to bed and get some sleep - although my husband stayed up and dozed in the chair. In the morning at 7 he went to work leaving a happy Mum and 4 puppies sleeping soundly, but when I came downstairs at 7.15am. I looked at the pups and counted. I counted 5 ,Hidden and tucked in the dark was an almost totally black puppy - no head stripe at all. Totally different to his brothers and sisters! We do not know when he was born - it was a mystery - he was totally dry and could not have been born between 7 and 7.15am. We had been with Rachel the whole time, and had seen the other 4 puppies born, we had not left her side - so where did this little pup come from ? We named him Black Jack, and kept him!
