Blossom our Springer still jumps up!

by Mary Smith
(England)

Hi, I have a springer spaniel named Blossom. She is nearly 14 months and she still hasn't learnt not to jump up! Now this is a bit of a problem because we are farmers and she gets filthy this time of year so whoever comes to our house is inevitably going to get paw prints on their trousers! We love her to bits but we want to know some good tips on how to stop her from jumping up all the time, thankyou!

Hi, I have an 8 month old male springer he does this a lot and just wants fuss,we have managed to control this by giving him the command down and if he Continues completely ignoring him(turning back) until he stops. It took about a month of constant battles but it worked for us :)

Hate to say it, but my best luck is having the visitor kick the dog when he jumps on them. My family, my husband's family, and my friends all have benefitted from this. Now, instead of jumping ON them, he jumps up next to them, never ON them...kinda funny, he just jumps up and down right next to them and barks cuz he's so happy....or may be frustrated

I havent tried it myself but apparently if your springer jumps up you should quickly raise your
knee in her chest area. They dont like it and it
will deter her from jumping apparently. I'll be working on this myself as likewise her muddy paws have left their mark on a few unsupecting strangers whilst walking - not always very popular!!!

The best thing to do is tell the person to turn their back the second she starts to jump up. Then ignore her until she settles down. At the same time you can say no down.
