brandy boy
by clayton mathison
Brandy Boy came into my life aged 6 mths old, i got him on Valentine's Day as my present. My wife partly trained him whilst in Germany, he was gundog trained and worked till he was 12yrs. The funniest moment was whilst hunting in my father-in-law's field. I was creeping and crouching and the father in law said that every time i crouched, so did the dog a few feet behind! This happened about 5 times in a row. On shoots he performed above and beyond, he checked out scrub that i would not put my worst enemy in just because i asked, rolled in snow like a mad man, disappeared in a lake for 30 seconds in Sudbury on his first stick. I remember that he retreived a dropped bird off of a chicken shed once. I was invited on shoots because of him. As a dog that disliked heat, in later life he liked to hog the log fire. He had his nose put out when two babies arrived in our house and yet he coped oh so well. I made a promise that when he could not do his walk it would be time to take him to the vets. He knew, and on the table we said our good byes, he closed his eyes and passed away with dignity. As a family we thank you that you came into our lives Brandy
