Calming down my springer??????Advice please

Hi

I have a four year old springer bitch who is absolutely mad. Mad as a hatter and absolutely uncontrolable excitement when out on a walk....she goes crazy, really nice to see her bounding around, the only problem I have is that she goes soooo wild she keeps twisting /spraining her back paws. Has anyone please got any advice on this, lovely to see her going crazy enjoying herself but horrid when she is limping on 3 legs for a few days :0(
Any advice most welcome, thank you xx

food?? NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi Lynn
I haven't heard that before, I feed her Bakers, the one you add water to so it has gravy, as she likes gravy, I also add a little tinned food to it to make it tasty or if we are leave any of our food I.e roast dinner (veg etc) or spag bol she has that instead. I have just cut out quite a few different treats from her diet because of things I have been told so now when she does have a treat it is usually pigs ears or raw hide. I know what you mean about the gravel and yes she gets walked regularly for an hour each day and smaller walk around the block on her lead etc in the evening, she just loves going out but specifically goes mad when she knows she is going to get to play......play governs her, food does not xx

Mad Springer NEW
by: Lynn

Hi there

Can I ask what food you feed your ESS?

I was always told not to feed them food with colourants in them as they react like children and 'E' numbers and ESS are mad enough already!

Does she get regular walks? Our go crazy if I can't get to walk them.

Our boy goes a bit crazy and I have to stop him running for his ball on gravel as I found that he goes at such a speed that he rips his pads and then limps around for days after.

walks well on her leash NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi Michelle
She walks very well on a leash, that is not the problem, it is when I let her off of her leash to play frisbee that she goes mad. Your right, she does indeed need alot of exercise which is why I let her off the leash.
Thanks anyway ;0)

Calming NEW
by: Michele

Your Springer needs training! At 4 years of age she should definitely know how to properly walk on a leash. And Springers need plenty of exercise, which it sounds as if you give her. I would find a good obedience class and start learning how to be sure she does what you ask her to do, like mannerly leash walking!
