barking at night NEW
by: Anonymous

We rehomed a 6 month old springer whose previous owner hadnt been able to crate due to her barking...but we persisted - we made sure she was tired out at bedtime, had her favourite toy with her and an old night shirt of my daughters. it was rough for a couple of nights but we resisted going down to her.. luckily we didnt have neighbours too close for her to disturb but a few days of getting her used to crate during the day as well she was fine and started to look upon the crate as "hers".... now she often takes herself to bed in the crate at night and during the day goes into sleep.. she also has a day bed in the living room - and she will enter the crate on command as/when required at other times...
I know its hard lying in bed hearing them bark/cry especially if you have neighbours but persistance does pay off

the thing that's always worked for us is using a crate at night with a tshirt i've had on at work all day. some people use a ticking clock wrapped inside but the shirt has always been enough for us.

your pup will feel safe and secure in a crate if you get it used to it during the day and make it a happy place for it.

whatever you do you need to ignore the barking or you'll just teach it that you come running when it barks.
