Do they get along with cats?

I had a springer spaniel when I was young and we always had cats. The dog always got along fine with them but now I have my own house and I have had my cat, Oscar, for 4 years now. Would it be ok to get a spaniel puppy even though I already have a 4 year old cat?

Cats & Springers
by: Michele

I have two Springers and a cat. My older Springer was here first. The cat came as a kitten about 3 years later. They get along fine and always have, although the dog will be sure to let the cat know who is the dominant animal! My younger Springer just joined us last year. She was 10 months old when we brought her home and had never seen a cat! She was terrified of him and didn't want anything to do with him! He ignored her as he does all animals and humans. Within a couple of days she was just fine with him and on a daily basis will attempt to trick him into playing with her. He will have nothing to do with that!

Yes if raised together

I think that if a Springer is raised with a cat he or she will be just fine and as you are getting the puppy second they will just fit in.

The one thing they don't get on with are birds as they are bred to retrieve them
