Freckles - A Springer Spaniel doesn't care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give her your heart and she will give you hers

My Springer Spaniel was put to sleep on Saturday and my heart is broken. She has been with us since she was 8 weeks old and we have been though so much together. She was 13 years and 3 months old.
She was diagnosed with a massive tumour in her chest about 2 weeks ago and the vet told me she would not live for much longer. This has affected me more than I ever realised. I never realised how strong our bond was til I found out it was going to be broken. When I came home I relished our last days together doing all her favourite things and giving her favourite foods. I wrote a cheesy poem that day when I came home from the vets and I will share this with you:
Freckles 7.4.97 - 31.7.10
Missy is the name we gave you that day When we brought you down to our house to stay Liver and White with loads of speckles After a week we named you Freckles
You were so cute with your lovely long ears We loved you so much and now we have tears Its been 13 years now and you have got old My heart is breaking at the news we’ve been told
You were part of our life for such a long time We took you for granted so much its a crime You were always there when we needed you To comfort us when we felt blue
I look at you now and see your sad eyes And wish the news we just heard was all just lies We will love and care for you more than before Until the time comes we can’t do anymore
I dread that day but it draws near When you go to sleep without a tear
My daughters very thoughtfully went out and bought me a new springer spaniel as they could see how much I was suffering the loss of my beautiful Freckles. I now have a lovely black and white spaniel which I named Gracie and I will appreciate every single minute of her life cos it goes by so quickly.
