Getting A Springer Into Water

We took in a rescue Welsh Springer. He surprised us by being afraid of water - he would even avoid puddles! We tempted him into a shallow stream by standing in it ourselves in our wellies, and throwing a ball around. Now he WANTS to get into the water! I think it's better to coax in a fun way to help dogs to overcome fears.
