How come my springer spaniel seems so much smaller than others I have seen.

He is a little over 1 year old and seems so much smaller than others I have seen. Do Springers really very in size that much?

Hi there
Springer Spaniels really do vary in size. There are two lines, the working line which is smaller finer boned and more agile which is probably what yours is.

Then you have the Working line which are larger and heavier set. My Mums dog Mungo is much bigger than George and we often get asked if they are the same breed due to th size difference.

Small Springer or Cocker?
by: LoveMyDog

I also have a springer that is much smaller than other springers that I have seen. He's 2 years old now, but when he was 1 year old, a vet suggested that he might be a cocker spaniel instead of a springer spaniel. He looks exactly like an english springer spaniel, except for his height. While at the same vet's office one day, I met a breeder of springer spaniels who said that my "springer spaniel" is indeed a springer spaniel. The breeder said his size and height could be due to improper breeding. I'll never know for sure unless I get his DNA tested, but I can say he is the sweetest, most loyal companion I've ever had!!
