how much should my springer spaniel weigh?

Hi, I have a ten month old springer spaniel who weighs 16.8 kilo's. He's fed twice a day on James wellbeloved. Does this sound about right or is he under weight?

Hi there
an average Springer Spaniel weighs 23-25KG but yours is a young dog still and could have more to grow. You are feeding him a good diet and twice a day so you are doing the right thing.

Are you feeding him the puppy or junior version of the food, as that will be higher in calories?

You may also want to try a higher calorie dog food such as
Burns Active or underweight Dog Food. They are a fantastic brand that I feed to my springer all the time.

My working Springer bitch is just 1 year old. She is very active particularly when she is on our croft when she just runs about all day. she is not very interested in food at all. At 10 months I was worried that her ribs were very visible after one such week away, and she still weighed only 13 kg which she had maintained for 3 months. After consulting my vet I put her on Burns Canine Extra and she made 14 kg by 11 months, but she is still very spare and quite petite. I am now convinced she is just one of these smaller dogs, and I have met another bitch which was 2 years old and similar in size and weight. She is my 3rd Springer and definitely the liveliest and smallest by several kilos and inches. she certainly seems very healthy and bright.

Hi I agree, they say the weight of a spaniel should be between 23-25kg.

Then again it all depends on the parents of the dog too.

We had a springer who people could class as a chunk but she was worked most of her life and feed the right amount of food etc and not given OTT amounts of treats, she was 24.6kg.

We now have brother and sister spaniels and the girl is very small and even vet said that some people would say that she is underweight but he knows that we are responsible and feeding her the correct amounts so there should be nothing to worry about. He brother is thicker built and wider but they both get 150g of food twice a day and he darnt take his sisters food as she would have a go at him.
