How to get my English springer spaniel to lose weight?

I just got an English springer spaniel on Saturday. He is 3 or 4 the people did not have room for him any more.

So I went to look at him and fell in love. He is so over weight. They were feeding him twice a day and the food they were giving him was for a 80 lb dog.

They said they feed that much because of the Chihuahua. That dog was over weight too. So I cut back on his food and have been walking every day. Is there anything else I should do?

How to help your springer lose weight

We have a 3 year old springer who was just over weight, we feed her twice a day 100g's per sitting, we take(I take) her out every day for about an hour off lead exercise, so you can imagine how much they run around! then kiddies take her out at night for a good run. I cut out treats solid for 2 weeks as she was getting to many, but exercise and regular feeding are a must there are loads of opinions on how often to feed a dog. I wouldn't want to be fed once a day, would you? Good luck.
