How to introduce Springer Spaniels to Chickens?

by Simon
(Poole, UK)

Hi,

We've recently bought two chickens to live in our back garden, Busta our 4 year old
Springer Spanielbarks and goes for our new ladies! Any hints on how to introduce a Springer to chickens?

Cheers

Simon

just an idea.

Just an idea, but how about put the chickens into cages, and allow the springer to sniff at them for a few minutes. You could slowly increase the springer's exposure to the chickens (still in a cage) over, say, a few weeks.
Then when the springer's curiosity is dampened a bit, open the cage but stay close to the springer. Again lengthen the time that the cage is open until, again, the curiosity is dampened.
I used this method to introduce a new kitten to my girlfriend's already established cats and it took a few days but worked a treat.
They are just like humans really, to learn things they just need slow but constant exposure under controlled circumstances.
Hope this helps.
