I am considering getting another springer to keep my 9 month old springer dog company and have been told they are more content in pairs - but do i get a boy or a girl ?

Have been told that springers are better in pairs - is this true ?

Our springer boy seems quite content already but I would love another.

should we wait until he is a little older?

best thing we ever did. NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi
Our male dog became the father to a number of springer pups when he was two and we chose one of his sone. From the moment they were together they have been the best of pals, sleeping together in the same big dog bed every night, eating together and really alwasy together. Best thing we ever did.x

differing opinions
by: rolosmum

We have got an almost 15week old springer and were advised by members on another forum not to add to him until he is matured at 2, so wondering how this compares with the get another one before he is this old as he will not worry so much about another one, will see as company rather than jealous etc. I also worry whether they would be more friendly with each other than with the human family.

2 better than 1??
by: Estie

Absolutely!! We got Cassy first, and she was so very social, we had to get another one! Hence, we started fostering, and kept our first foster. They got along from day one! Cassy is a girl, and Sammy is a boy. This was the advice I got from the springer rescue people. Cassy is the boss (and won't let you forget it)!! Sammy is a laid-back male and lets her do her thing!!

Two Springers
by: Michele

My personal opinion is that Springers do great in pairs or bigger groups. They are very social dogs and in addition to liking to hang around with us, they like to hang with other dogs too.

I have two Springers. Casey is now 11 years old and Sadie is almost 3 years old. We've had Casey since 8 weeks of age. Two years ago we decided to get another Springer and found Sadie, who was 10 months old at the time. They immediately took to each other and have been best friends ever since!

The only problems we've had are due to their age difference. Sadie, being the younger dog, is much more hyper that Casey. Sometimes in her excitement she will knock Casey over, but it's not due to meanness. Other than that we do separate them at meal times just to avoid any potential problems.

another springer

I HAVE TWO AND THEY GET ON GREAT, I PERSONALLY WOULD GET ONE NOW, SOMETIMES THE ONE YOU HAVE NOW, MAY GET JEALOUS, WHEN THEY ARE YOUNGER I FIND THEY ARE MORE ACCEPTING, I HAD SOPHIE AS A PUP IN AUGUST THEN GOT BEN 6 MONTHS LATER AND IT WAS SO MUCH FUN,WATCHING THEM CHASING EACH OTHER AROUND THE TABLE AND GARDEN, ALSO THEY KEEP EACH OTHER COMPANY WHEN YOU GO OUT, HOPE THIS HELPS...
