Leaving our springer at home alone for max 2 hours

I fully understand the pack system but our springer (Bailey - 6 mth old male) will bark or howl if we leave him home alone, He has treats in his cage and toys. He is always exited when we come back in and gets lots of love. Any tips or ideas please. Stu.

The only other thing I can suggest then is to get him a buddy then he won't be alone.

I would suggest to put him in the crate 5-10minutes before you leave and don't say goodbye or make a fuss then do the same when you get home no hellos or attention for 5-10minutes this should help to calm him as he won't recognize the crying in the crate will get attention and help with anxiety issues then give all the love in the world. This worked for us with an anxious rescue springer we adopted. Hope this helps

Do you only use the crate when you go out?.. we recently rehomed a 6month old female Marleigh who had howled when previous owner has tried crating...
She only howled for a couple of nights as we got her used to it by putting her in it during the day for short spells but increase the time by 5-10 minutes each time..... ie when we were eating, or just to get her used to it and we used to come in and out off the room where she was crated so she got used to fact we were still around...now she goes in her crate to order and will go and lie in it during the day if she wants to and she has only been with us 3 weeks

hi my springer loves the kong wobbler you can fill with most small treats or there dried nuggets and they love knocking it around to get food out

If you can get a kong or something that you can put a treat in and your dog will have to work to get it out it's wonderful.

We take a kong and put in a teaspoon of peanut butter then a dog biscuit that doesn't come out easily. It keeps Charlotte occupied for hours.

Thank you. I have thought about that but feel that i am not ready for a second dog as yet. I will be getting another. Bailey is such a wonderful dog who over the last 10 days or so has been so eager to please with trianing coming along especially recall (he now walks off the lead and does not wander far)
