Murphy the English Springer Spaniel

Our handsome boy
Murphy is 5months old and is full of mischief, he is always getting up to no good, have had to throw out 3 pairs of shoes as he took a liking to them, even when you are there in the room he just goes ahead.
His only major problem is if you are out with him and let him of the lead, trying to get him back on the lead is a nightmare he just keeps running around when you go to get him, one of the times my husband had him out he decided to just race about when my husband went to get him on the lead, then proceeded to run through all the mud needless to hubby was not amused as both needed a shower when they came home.
But we would not change him for the world as we both love him to bits, he is so entertaing. He also likes to sleep on your head not right on it just above it, if you are sitting on the chair he jumps up and drapes himself around you like a scarf.
He also takes crazy turns and just runs from one sofa to another just wondering if any of the habits I mentioned are normal to that breed?
If we leave him for a couple of hours he is fine he does not do anything as everything is as we left it apart from locking himself in the utility room or toilet, because we had heard that they did not like being on their own. We were used to leaving our dogs for few hours they were german sheperds so getting Murphy was a big change but a good one we are only sorry we did not get a springer spaniel before; we dont regret having german sheperds, we just find it much more relaxed and more enjoyable going out with him and not getting pulled of your feet, hope you like our handsome boy.......
