My 13yr old springer dog pants and tries to hide in the smallest of places

by dean barnes

My 13yr old springer has trouble with arthritis and is on medication for it but recently he has started to have like panic attacks where he tries to hide in the smallest of places like under tables or up corners. he keeps pacing round panting and just wont settle, his back is arched as if his legs are struggling to take the strain.

aging springer issues NEW
by: Tami

Oh bless your heart - I just 3 weeks ago lost the best Springer that God ever made (at least I think so) anyway - Beau started that behavior at about 12 1/2 years - he lived to be just 3 months shy of 15 years - I think it was the beginning of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction - Do not panic - it looks scary and it won't kill him anytime soon - they will likely live as long as they can and you and they will learn to accomadate - I did buy him a Thunder Shirt and it did help - but really just putting pillows in places he usually would get stuck was the the biggest help - I also tried Selegeline but didn't see that it worked well enough to justify the price and believe me if it did the price would have been no object I usually just searched for things that worked well and put my money there - best of luck and love on that Springer!!!!

Im sorry your friend is having trouble... I think I would take him to a vet to rule out other illnesses. If it is anxiety maybe there is something that your vet can give him to help.
