My English Springer Spaniel is Not Listening!!! HELP
My boykin spaniel is male and 10 months old and wont listen to my husband and I. He ignores us but mostly just me. He wont come inside when I tell him to come, he nips me when I try to grab his collar.
So I tryed to nudge him with my knees an he niped them too. I tell him no and most of the time he ignores me till I get upset and raise my voice and then he really wont listen. w
When my husband leaves the dog tries to make himself puke by hacking( I dont know if that makes sence)Because he thinks ill let him out an he'll take off after him.
I cant snuggle my husband without the dog right there getting petted. I let him sleep with me when he was big enough to get on and off the bed and potty trained I wish I didnt because now he doesnt ask to come up he wont get down.
If Im lying on the couch he'll get up and sit on my feet till I move them. I've tryed to keep him off the bed but I wake up and there he is.
He takes the bark off our wood for the fire and chews it to peices all over the house and won't give it up when I try to take it.
Anything he puts in his mouth I have to pry his mouth open to get it. I know I need to be the leader of the pack but I dont know how???
My husband comes home from work and lets him away with murder and his mom come over
an does the same, his mom also babysits him.
I feel bad because im the only one always giving him trouble, but im always praising him when he's good.
Hes a great dog and I know that a dog is as good as you train them. but im stuck on how to make him listen.
Im 6 months pregnant and I need to get this under controll before the baby comes. Please help me figure this out. From Anna@love-springer-spaniels.com
Sorry you are having a horrid time of it, but you are right he thinks he is the boss and the leader of the pack.
You need to work with your husband and mother in law in setting the boundaries and enforcing them together as a team(you will need the same approach as your baby gets older too;-))
First under no circumstances should he sleep with you, you are sending the message that he is as important as you. If he gets on the bed the physically remove him, the same for the sofa.
You may also want to consider getting him neutered if he has not been done already.
Work on not letting him enter a room before you, eating before he does, controlling his space. Here are a series of guides to help.
You may want to hire the help of a behaviourist especially as you have a baby on the way. You really need to sort this out before the baby arrives.
