My Springer will not stop jumping on guests

Please help or advise. My Springer knows not to jump and he picks and chooses who he jumps up on. When he does he knows where his time out place is and goes directly to it......it's like he thinks I will do my time in time out just as long as I get to jump on a chosen few.

It seems my Springers' short term memory is lacking. Is there a certain age that it is too late to train them? I was thinking of taking him to some obedience school.

Any tips or techniques?

Jumping on guests

Our springer(sprocker) did the same thing. We attached a leash to her harness and kept it on her for a few weeks. When the doorbell rang, she would go to the door and bark, then we would tug on the leash. Guests would come in, she would attempt to go to the guest and jump (friendly :) ) and we would tug on the leash. Consistently doing this and putting your body between the dog and the guest(even gently nudge your leg between the dog and the guest consistently) will help remind the dog that this is your playpen! It worked for us! The only problem is that you have to do this a few weeks by keeping the leash close by(near the door) and each time the door bell rings or someone knocks, you have to attach the leash. After a while, we didn't need the leash and just nudged with our leg. Moreso now, a simple "epp" command and leg in front works. (we used "epp" for correction) Our springer is very well behaved and we find once we move guests away from the door, she has no interest. After doing the leash trick for a few weeks, she often would roll over when I guest came in! LOL :) Dogs are personable and I find that jumping is annoying to some guests but a friendly jump is the dog's greeting! GL!
