My Sweet English Springer Spaniel Charlie

by Betsy Kiehl
(North Carolina, USA)

Our sweet Charlie.

Our sweet Charlie.

My sweet Charlie was my first English Springer Spaniel. Charlie was a real sweetheart from the beginning and grew to be the typical Springer......she could spring into the air at a moments notice.

Charlie loved to run and loved to play. She had a total of 26 toys, and she played with and cherished each one. When my daughter was born, we began to refer to Charlie as "Mother Charlie" because she looked after my baby as though she belonged to Charlie. When our cat, Bella, had kittens, "Mother Charlie" began to produce milk and tried to take care of them as though they were hers.

My sweet Charlie died last June 2009, at the age of 14. She died mostly because her body was just so tired, but she also had cancer. Charlie died in her home surrounded by her human family who loves her so still to this day, and are still heartbroken over her loss. Charlie is missed.

Charlie

Just read your story about Charlie, and it brought tears to my eyes. What a lovely Springer she was. May you all take comfort in knowing she had a wonderful life with you. I have never lost a dog, my Springer is the first dog I have ever owned, and I know the day will come when I will have to go through what you have, and I dread it. I have lost several cats and I grieved over them, but trust me, over time, it won't be so painful.

Charlie

You can always cherish the memories and know you provided the best life possible for her. It hurts like crazy to lose our springers. The hole they leave is huge. I still cry and it's been 4 1/2 yrs since we lost our first springer - to cancer and old age - she was 13.

What a beautiful springer Charlie was! Thanks for posting the picture!
