Need help with energetic Springer. He never comes when called!

by Richard
(Sydney)

I have a 18month old male English Springer spaniel. He is a great dog, but is still very crazy and highly energetic. We've had some training recently so he is beginning to calm down, but when we are out in the park and I let him off leash he just runs off. Way off! And it's very rare that he will come back when called. If I run away he will follow me, but it's hard when there are other dogs around.

Any ideas?? We haven't had him desexed yet if that helps.

We invested in shock collars..didn't take very long..now my three year old listens very well. She was stubborn. My 9 month old is even better. I guess breeding has a little to do with it. Youngest is really smart. Got collars for them, from Gun Dog Supplies.

Favorite thing? NEW
by: Sally

Hi
My male Springer is 3 years old and still very excitable although alot better since we changed his biscuits. He isn`t an entire male but we`ve been lucky he`s never been one for just taking off (unless he sees a pheasant!!) We`ve also found that aslong as we have something that`s a favorite in our hand his attention is all ours. For JJ it`s sticks (unfortunately he`s obsessed by them) but perhaps a fave` ball, toy, treat?? You`ve prob tried all these things but just a thought. Good luck.
