Oscar and his best friend

Hi I wrote before about oscars chewing but he seems to have grown out of that a good bit. But his other problem is when I haven't seen him in a few hours, say in the morning he jumps up alot and bites me !

Its not nipping and not always hard but he latches his whole mouth around my arm and it's only me he does it to and I cant get him to stop!

A trainer told me he was trying to 'dominate' me and this would turn to aggression but I dont think oscar has it in him to be intentionally bad .. please help !

From Anna@love-springer-spaniels.com

Hi there
As soon as he does this turn away from him and give him no attention or eye contact, completely ignore him until he has completely settled. Then give him attention on your terms

Biting NEW
by: Michele

All dogs 'have it in them to be bad' given the right circumstances, especially if nobody is stepping up to make corrections, train, etc. Listen to your trainer. He / She is trying to help you and save you some trouble!

Just a game NEW
by: Tamar

Pip 'bites' me as another of her games. I do not think they mean to really bite you, I think it is too much affections that comes out that way. I do not think you have a reason to worry about it. Just tell him with a strict voice: No, no biting Oscar, they usually understand.

springer bite and jump
by: Anonymous

My experience with springers leads me to believe differently, My springers want to jump up and great me even after a short time of being away from them. My oldest is a little over a year old and is easing up. Winston (the oldest) would bite when young but it was play, and as pups their teeth are sharper. After he was about 9 months old he stopped biting. He will mouth my hand or arm but doesn't bite I believe its a greating thing. I break mine from jumping by bending over and holding them down gently and give them about five minutes of attention. A springer is a very loving dog and gets very attached. They need allot of love and will give you that love back. Mine are so very gentle now. Salem is the youngest and only 6 months old, doesn't bite at all and doesn't mouth my hand like Winston, He does however like to lick my fingers.

Biting

Listen to your trainer. And try Anna's recommendation also. Springers are great dogs, but can be domineering if allowed to be.
