Rosalie the Intrepid

by Tracie Chakraborty
(Memphis, Tn)

ROSALIE THE INTREPID

ROSALIE THE INTREPID

Driving home from the shelter with a loudly bawling, six week old springer mix puppy, I tried out several contenders and was leaning towards Brigitte Bardot. (I have a black standard poodle named for Audrey Hepburn.) Until I stopped at a red light and reached into the pet carrier in the back seat to comfort my new baby and she looked at me with her impossibly bright blue eyes.

Liz Taylor. There was no one else to name her after. But, not wanting to call my puppy Liz or Taylor, I chose her middle name, Rosamond. Which, being an American Southerner, quickly morphed into Rosalie.

As to the Intrepid, her indomitable, easy-going nature deserves nothing less than a Viking-esque name.
