"Show" springer puppy seems completely different in temperament to our working springer

We've just got a 15 week old "show" springer (Harry) and I can't believe the difference between him and what our working springer (Joshua) was like at that age.

Joshua was like a tornado, whereas Harry is so placid and calm that I even started worrying today that there may be something wrong with him! Is this difference the norm, or have we just got a particularly quiet puppy?

Ha! I laughed when I read this because I had my show springer first, and she was like a nice warm bath so relaxed and the perfect cuddler. 2 years later in comes the field springer Neela, OMG, she was smart, loyal and on fire. Fast forward 10 years and she is staring at me right now with a ball in her mouth. The good thing about having the 2? THe show seems to calm the working down a bit...have fun!

i have a 7year old show springer and while out for a walk with her and a friend of hers[a working springer]they both ran down a banking and startled a rabbit which ran, as did both dogs, but the dogs ran in different directions mine behind me, the working dog after the rabbit!

Totally reassured now! NEW

Thanks guys! Seems they're all different - I guess it's not surprising really, since like people, they each have their own individual personality.

Harry is settling in so well now, gaining confidence and getting involved in everything :-)

'Show' /'Working' Springers NEW

Our Springer Lucy is from working stock and is a delightful family pet, so calm and chilled but loads of energy when she is out, she is the most laid back dog I've ever come across and has been so easy to train. I think springers, whether they are working or show can differ in many ways :)

I have a show springer and he has the most delightful placid nature you could imagine. Very easy to train, loving and faithful to the extreme.

I have two springers Barley who is 10 and so laid back, and Bramble who is 6 like a coiled spring 24/7 they get along so well together, i don't think you can get 2 springers alike....!!
