I had my springer done at 5 months, she also had a bottom lift to remove excess skin at the same time. Way too young. Could not keep her calm, she was doing circuits in the create, she would jump, twist and try and get away when I toiled her and was getting that frustrated she actually was trying to bite me. I tried two types of sedatives (they just took the top off). Three days after the operation I noticed discharge rushed her to the vet, they said keep her calm! The wound never completely healed and there is a small hole that continually discharges, my vet said to keep an eye on it and clean it up etc. The only option is to reoperate and cut out the scar tissue. At this stage I’m holding off and waiting until she gets a bit older and able to keep her settled during convalescence.

Let her have at least 1 season before u have her spayed 2 is better! as shes not fully developed yet and could have problems if shes done too early, she could be in season anytime from about 8mths onwards but will be probably around year old! Feel free to pm me for any more advice :-)

There are two trains of thought... some have them done before the bitch comes into season, others let her have her first season ..... personally with ours we had her done before as she still had contact with her dad and brother and we didnt want any accidents and hadnt planned to breed her at all so it was best for us....
Vets will do it at around the 6 1/2 month if you wish...hardest part we found was "keeping the dog calm " for the 10 days or so after the op... you try telling a 7 month old female springer she has to stop racing round the garden and cant go off her lead on walkies.
