Springer pup shy of visitors to the house

I'm hoping someone can help, we have a 17 week old liver & white springer pup called Jess, she is totally adorable, obedient, calm, a good sleeper, etc...pretty perfect I thought!!!

She is enrolled to start puppy classes next week and the trainer wanted to pop in and meet her & us before hand. He called last night.

When he arrived he approached her and she immediately backed off, he continually tried to stroke her and she ended up barking at him, and ran around the table to get away...eventually coaxed by a few treats she came around to him a bit, but even after an hour she was a bit wary.

He asked if this was common, I had to think hard (we don't have loads of visitors trailing through the house) and yes she is always unsure of unfamiliar people, although it doesn't normally last that long. I had thought this was normal, something she would grow out, but he has frightened me, he called her sensitive and said if I don't sort that urgently I'm going to have problems! Out on her walks she is amazing so well behaved, she LOVES other dogs and children and is always happy to play, even looking really sad if a dog tells her off, she lets the owners stroke her, sometimes jumping up, often rolling over to show her tummy.

Is this something anyone else has encountered, should I be as worried as the trainer has said?

Thanks for your help
