Springer Spaniel Jumping on people
by Karen
(Ontario Canada)
We have a lovely 1 year old English Springer named Dixie. She is a great girl except when anyone new comes into our house
Her jumping and excitement is overwhelming and we have to hold her to avoid her knocking people over. This even occurs when my husband or myself returns home. We have tried ignoring it by not responding and turning our backs to her but without much inprovement in the behaviour. HELP

Hi there I know how irritating this can be, what I have used in the past is a very simple technique whereby you completly ignore her until she has moved away and laid down. It may take a long time to do this so you probably need to set aside an afternoon to go out of the house and come back in. As you walk in and she jumps up turn away, do not give her any eye contact or talk to her. Then when she has finally settled then you can give her the attention.
Hope this helps
