Springer Spaniel puppy.

Our 8 mos. old puppy, mozart, is generally a good-mannered boy, but as soon as we go out to a populated place like the mall or a concert in the park, he gets super excited and pulls in every direction. i realize this could merely be typical puppy behavior, but was wondering if there was anything we can be doing to make it a more enjoyable experience for the next several months?

Mozart
by: Michele

Ah - you gotta love those Springer puppies! Full of vim, vigor & over-excitement!

The best way to calm him around other dogs is by taking him around other dogs often, letting him become use to them. When you enter the dog park make him sit. Don't yell, just calmly say 'sit, Mozart.' Our 2 year old Springer does the same thing. After she sits we rub her chest and speak softly to her and this seems to calm her. Once she has settled down a bit we'll let her off the leash to enjoy her friends and the dog park. She has gotten to the point where she has stopped jumping all around, but you can tell it takes every bit of control she has! Once she's off the leash - look out! She runs like a bolt of lightening!
