Springer Spaniel showing fear aggression towards other dogs

by Karen Weller
(Rustington)

I have a neutered 1 year old male Springer. We have had him since he was 9 weeks along with his brother. He is very loving towards us and is great around the house. Problem is when we go out. He attacks other dogs. As soon as he sees a dog he runs at them barking and tries to nip their legs.

If they turn and run at him he runs away screaming. As soon as they turn away he attacks again. He is currently in training classes and is timid around the other dogs but does not bark or go for them. His brother has no issues and just wants to play like any other puppy with other dogs. Help

my springer spaniel is now 5yrs.When she was 3yrs she was seriously worried by two loose dogs without owner, she was on the lead with me.To get help I had to persistently shout for help.As one went for the throut the other dog bit into her flank I was practically hysterical as I couldn't get my dog off he floor because she had suvbmitted and rolled over.Since then every time she sees a dog even from the other side of the road she begins barking, and screaming,it really is a distressing sound ,its becoming really limiting because even though she has a three mile hike every day its mostly spent looking for and avoiding other dogs, shes never loose now because I am concerned that she dosnt do it to the wron g dog and then there is a fightIm wondering if she is mimicking me shouting for help, any advise im so fed up with it all
