Springer Spaniel "Silent Season"

by Mary

I'm waiting for my springer (5 yr old) to come into season as I want to breed from her and have already lined up a suitable male springer. Her seasons are very irregular and I think she may be in season at the moment but there's no blood, she's just slightly swollen. Is there any other way to tell if she's in season?

I have a girl that does not bleed during her seasons, albeit she is quite regular.

It is difficult to breed without having your own stud dog as knowing when she is ready can be difficult.

I would look on the 6 months dates and check for swelling, you will also see other signs such a scent marking, then look for the girl flagging, ie. moving her tail to one side when inspect her or stroke just above her tail.

Its easier with dogs around an in season bithc because they just know :-)
