Springer Spaniel Snapping at other dogs.

by David
(Bedfordshire)

We have a 7 year old Springer Spaniel bitch and a 14 month old dog. He has started snapping at other dogs when they are a few inches away, and once actually connected with one dog. It is the same regardless of the other dogs sex or size. What can we do to stop this?

Dog snapping at other dogs
by: Lynn

Hi there

Other than your other ESS has your 14mth old been introduced to other dogs?

Does the young ESS only snap when he is with the other dog?

I just wonder this as to whether he is being protective of the older dog or maybe jealous when others come near.

I would try some socialisation on his own then also with your older dog and see what happens.

We used to have a ESS X that used to bare her teeth at other dogs on a walk but she was very highly strung and we also had an older ESS too. This particular dog was ok when others came into her house but it happened when we were out for a walk. It was almost like she was going to have the first snap before the others did.
