Springer Spaniel Suddely peeing in crate

by Jill
(Berkshire)

We have a 14 week old Springer puppy who has suddenly started peeing in her crate after 6 weeks of not doing this? She tends to fall asleep at around 7 pm and thus we've put her to bed and not heard from her until 6 am which seems a rather long time (although we are glad of the peace in the evening rightly or wrongly!). She's never had a mistake in the crate. However she does pee when I or other members of the family leave the room, even if someone is left in the room - there's a stairgate so she can see and hear the person leaving the room? The smell is quite overwhelming today - very strong - sadly its right through her bed so I think perhaps its going to have to go in the bin otherwise it will always smell (foam filled cushion type) - I've gone back to vetbed which I can wash but not certain you can ever get rid of the smell once its there? I clean the crate out with bicarb and hot water.

Any suggestions please would be greatly appreciated.

Urinating in crate NEW
by: Michele

My Springer tends to have urinary tract infections (UTI). When this happens she will urinate in her crate or on the floor depending on where she is at the time. This is my first indication of the UTI. My 2nd, if I miss the first one, is a strong odor.

I would take her to the Vet to be checked out.
