Springer Spaniel weeing with excitement

My male springer is 5 months old and is still weeing when I walk into the room!

I understand he is still young but it is abit of a nightmare cleaning up after him.

I have stopped even greeting him which seems mean but I know if I do then the excitment is just too much. He dosent even squat long enough outside and then the wee is sprinkled around!!

simple solution NEW
by: Anonymous

hi, I breed english springer spaniels and excitement weeing when they are young is very normal , they do grow out of it but in the meantime I always clean up with something call simple solution that you can buy from pets at home and this neutralises the smell so that the puppy or dog does not reoffend on the same spot, even if you are very thorough in cleaning up the tiddling accidents the dog or puppy has a much stronger sense of smell and can still smell so not always being able to tell the difference between outside and inside, i have used and recommended simple solution to all my new puppy owners and it really works, you are best to buy the biggest size as it works out cheaper. Good luck

mine too

My female springer did this all the time with excitement. It happened when we came in and during playtimes. It also sometimes happened when we were praising her. She's now 7 and the weeing didn't stop until she was around 5. We tried everything, not speaking to her when we came in (until she had been outside to toilet), stopping play immediately when it happened (very confusing for her). I think it just resolved itself in time although 5 years was a lot of wee to clear up. Perservere.

weeing with exitement
by: Annnette

my 7 month springer does this too and I have tried ignoring her when I come home (not easy).

I read that when you play tug o war with her/him let her win, this gives her confidence and makes less subordinate behaviour, i'm trying this and the weeing is less.

Hope this helps :)
