Springer Spaniel Hip and Joint problems

by Nikki
(London)

We have noticed over the last six months that Penny, our Springer Spaniel, has been really stiff after exercise on and off.

My gut feeling is telling me that it is Hip Dysplasia.

A friend of mine suggested that I should give her glucosamine, which I've been doing now for about 4 weeks. We are taking her to the vet on Wednesday to get her checked out because we think she's slowly getting worse and we hate the thought of her being in pain and not being able to enjoy her walks without suffering afterwards.

Has anyone else experienced the same problem with their springer? If Glucosamine was used, did it make a difference?

Springer Spaniel with hip dysplasia /arthrits

by nikki
(London)

Hi every one, I don't know what its doing where you are, but its finally raining!!

Anyway, I'm just updating on Penny our English Springer Spaniel and how she went at the vet. He gave a thorough going over, bloods and x rays. The good news is that she doesn't have Dysplasia, no back problems but she does have Arthritis in her knees. So she is on pain relief and doggy glucosamine, but the vet said that the Holland and Barret are just the same and probably cheaper but he wants to start her off on the doggy ones first....how else is he going to make his money from the the insurance...lol

Apart from that shes healthy. Hes told us to rest her now for a week, which she is hating already and then gradually build her exercise up.Things could have been a lot worse! We are just relieved that shes ok and happy and healthy.....:O)
