Springer that makes no sound!

We just got an adorable 18 month old springer from the rescue centre and are worried because he makes no sound whatsoever. Not even when the cat swiped him across the nose! He doesn't bark, growl, whine our even snuffle. We particularly chose a springer to alert us to people at the door. He's fabulous otherwise. Any advice?

Springer makes no sound NEW
by: Lee

We have two springers, brother and sister now aged nearly mine months. The bitch is very vocal, yaps, growls, whines, howls, all the normal noises but the boy has never made any sound except when he got chased by a local farm dog. He yelped loudly the whole time. He had never made a sound before or since of any description. We had him checked out by the vet and he examined his vocal chords under anaesthetic ( under for his castration )and they were found to be totally normal. He said some dogs find their voice later than others and not to worry.

hi, we rescued a springer early this year and he was 9 months old and for the first 4 months we had him we never heard him bark! he is still quiet now but he does bark or whine when hes not happy so its probably that the pup just needs a bit of time to settle! :)

He probably just needs time. Just like us all Springerspanielstud are different. We had a Springer once that we rescued and we thought he was mute because he didn't make a sound, after a few months he found his voice.

Your love and care will bring him out of himself. Good luck
