Springer trouble NEW
by: M

Our boy, is four now, and we've just observe that now and then he goes up the stairs like an old dog, or will find it hard to jump on the sofa. And then, everything is OK. Initially I went berserk thinking it is hip dysplasia. We took him to the vet, and they believed he pulled a muscle. We've had him on rest and anti-inflammatory for two weeks, everything was fine...but it started again. Last week he had an X ray, and the vet discovered he has sacroiliac disease. We were advised to wait for 3 to 4 months. He needs to rest a lot, is not aloud to run or chase balls. They hope the bone will fuse (this is what we were told), if not he will need an operation. What is strange, is the fact that this should be as a result of trauma, and this is not the case.
Anyway, take yours to the vet and have it checked asap, as undetected can cause more damage.

unable to jump. NEW
by: Angels springers

Hopefully you have taken her to the vet by now and they have checked her hips and back. Unfortunately springers do have hip dysplasia. That is why it is so important to buy from someone who has had the parents OFA checked. But many breeders believe it is an unneccessary cost. they are wrong.
But if your girl does have hip problems just build her a ramp. My old girl could not jump up and sleep with me on the bed(as she had done since she was born 11 years ago) so I built her a ramp and enjoyed her as a bed partner for 3 more years. We just have to adjust just as we would for a human.

Not being able to jump NEW
by: June

My Emma was diagnosed last Summer at the age of 2 1/2 with severe hip displaysia. She is unable to jump on the couch and bed at times. Other times, she has no trouble. She walks up to the couch and kind of prances, like she wants to jump but can't. I have to lift her, which is getting to be a problem with my lower back problems and her 60 pounds. I wish you luck.
