Training a 10 month old male springer spaniel puppy

I just got a 10 month old male springer. He is very hyper and will not go out the backdoor. i have to chase him down, pick him up and carry him outside. Then he just jumps on the door barking. He also barks at night while in his crate. I am trying to potty train, but it is very difficult. if i go out with him he continually jumps on me. please help.

Try to encourage him outside only ask 2 times then if that doesn't work put a slip lead on him and take him out, that way he will learn you mean business, they are never to young to start learning rules and boundaries. also you don't want to have to carry him out all the time so this will help teach him to go out when you ask instead of being a effort. Good luck

Patience, Consistency and Timing. Puppies are by nature excitable, especially Springer puppies. They require a ton of patience to train and even just to co-exist with them at first! Patience and more patience!

Consistency - do the same thing every time. Doing one thing this time and another next time confuses dogs. Make going outside to potty fun! Be excited and clap your hands and say "let's go potty!" or "let's go outside!". Then go outside. But say and do the same thing EVERY time. After puppy does his business, big praise! Plus, a treat doesn't hurt.

Timing - Puppies have about a 3 second memory. If you need to correct a behavior you need to see it and do it within about 3 seconds.

I would definitely look for an obedience class in your area and get signed up for it. The training ends up being as much for the dog as you! You'll learn a lot and so will the pup!
