Wanton killing of wildlife by Springer Spaniel

my rescued 9yr old neutered male springer kills wildlife including rabbits, turtles, frogs, chipmunks and small rodents with short tails and an underbite.

he is not dog aggressive and he is people friendly. We have had him since he was a year old.

is he acting on hunting instinct, protecting his turf or an incorrigible serial killer?

How does one stop this behavior?

Springer likes to catch small game NEW

I Have a two year old that does the same thing he catches birds in his mouth and he catches chipmunks. He will chase and kill anything. But he is the nicest well behaved pet. Great with other Dogs, People and Kids.

I just adopted a 2 yr old one who had killed chickens and now I think wants to hunt and kill my cat, although I'm not sure 100% but mostly sure. Anyone know about how to tell.

wildlife and the spaniel

Our Sammy does the same thing. He is a hunter - no doubt about it. I don't have any advice for you except to say that you aren't the only one with the situation. I don't worry about it, however. It doesn't happen very often, and he's found that birds out-fly him, squirrels out-run him, and rabbits out-run him!
