What food is the best for our springer spaniel

by Lucy
(Lincolnshire)

Hi our 2 year old springer has always been fed on skinners duck and rice, a friend of our has advised us that this food is for working dogs only and ours is a pet although my husband is about to start training him to the gun. He also said that the protien in the food makes him more hyper.

I've been on the skinners website and cant find any information regarding this, so if anyone could help I would be most grateful.

I use Skinners and both my springer love it, as long as they are getting good walks everyday they are fine. I also like feeding them Arden Grange, Burns and James Wellbeloved.

Springer weight NEW
by: Junestormblue

Hi I've had my springer Blue for last 6 months and have struggled lots with his weight. He was a working dog and kept in kennel all day every day apart from a Sunday to work. The man I had him from was vague about his diet. At the time he was 19kg but looked chunky. He is quite tall apparently. Vets have checked him over after a reaction to his booster injection and a considerable weight loss, but recommended wet chappie dog food as he seemed to have diarrhoea after dried food. I was feeding him purina beta recommended for protein levels. He put a little weight on but now losing lots again although fit, active, swim and walked daily. I don't think he should be quite as skinny but he doesn't hold on to any weight. Any suggestions?

dog food NEW

I fed my springer on working dog food and he gained too much weight - he is not a working dog he is a pet. He has two field walks a day and runs around like a crazy thing in the fields, but there must have been to many calories in it for him. I have changed to Burns food and he is staying at the correct weight
