When should we have our ESS bitch spayed?

by Paul

Hi, we have a beautiful ESS bitch called Poppy. She is 13 months old and has just come into season, we think this is the first time, havent noticed any of the signs before, but we know that they can have a 'silent season'.

Our vet told us that they like them to have at least one season before spaying.
Now that she is in season, how long do we have to leave it before we can have her spayed?
We don't want to breed her and don't want any accidents!
Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated.

Spayed NEW
by: Molly's Mom

We spayed our girl at 4 months old to help ward off chances of breast cancer and also calmed her right down. The new studies show the sooner the better if you really do not plan on breading. At the spay we found she has Agenesis of her left ear. So we really shoud not have bread her, as our original choice was a good one. Never Litter if you don't plan on being stuck with one or two.

Wait till shes finish her season then about 3mths after should be mid way through! The only other way would be to let her have a 2nd season then your know the gap between seasons and have her spayed in the middle, its normally 3mths after a season...

I applaud you for wanting to spay your Springer!

Most vets will spay a dog at around 6 months of age, some sooner. Your girl is 13 months and this is a good time to have it done.
