Why is my springer spaniel having a difficult time breathing?




My 13 year old brittany and springer spaniel mix is having a very difficult time breathing. This is made painfully clear by her diaphragm, tongue and pacing back and forth. She has been to the vet and was diagnosed with bronchitis but did not improve with medication, in fact her conditioned worsened. She has a history of seizures and a thyroid problem. Is there something going on that the vet is missing? Is there a history of breathing problems with spaniel breeds?

Please take your dog to a different vet. My beloved Springer,was having propblems breathing and within a couple of hours he died in my arms at the vets with Bloat. He was a happy loveable sweetheart to dying in my arms. Don't wait and tend to your dog. He was also 13 years old

I don't mean to worry you, but my last dog (colliexlab) started panting and having trouble breathing. Turned out he had multiple tumours inside him which was restricting his breathing. He was also producing a lot of saliva. Please take your dog to the vet ASAP.

At that age it could be bloat, very serious. It could be IMHA,are the gums really pink, or are they light? Severe pain can cause heavy breathing. I would go to another vet.

I'd go right back to the Vet and if I didn't think I was getting the right answers, I'd find another one!

Breathing difficulties can also be brought on by stress and heart problems. Could be due to her senior age she's having a hard time getting over the respiratory infection, but as I said I would go back to the Vet.
