windy Springer!

Hi need some help, our 1 year old springer stinks! He is constantly windy, we hear him break wind and then a few seconds later the smell hits you and its awful, makes everyone leave the room!

We hav changed food to bets suggestion which is low allergy but makes no difference. He is regularly wormed. He will eat anything he can find as he is permanently hungry even though he's on the max amount of food he can have. We try and atop him eating anything other than dog food but I hav even caught him eating sunflower leaves!

Not sure if its linked but he also seems to produce a ridiculous amount of poo as well!

Any ideas please?

Have you tried just using the dried food from Arden Grange, James Wellbeloved or Burns? They are very good for their digestive system.

Just over a year ago, we took on 2 stray springers from Blue Cross. They came to us on Hills food. We changed them onto Fish4Dogs dry biscuits - totally natural ingredients. Never once did they have wind, diahorrea, no fishy breath or anything like that. Sadly, for medical reasons we've had to move Murph onto prescription Hills for his joints and Molly onto prescription hills because of struvite crystals. Murphy now gets wind and blocked anal glands! Am seriously considering moving him back onto Fish4Dogs and giving him a supplement.

I had a similiar problem with Purina pedigreed and a
Someone suggested a a higher quality a dog food. I don't remember the brand, but it worked immediately.

We used to have the same problem, well at least the dog did!

We now feed our dog the same dried food diet but served in water. This slows down his speed of eating and reduces the amount of air consumed with the food. He very rarely breaks wind now.

With regards to always seeming hungry, this seems to be a fairly common issue with similar dogs in the area. Our springer is attracted to almost anything edible when outside!

thanks for the comments i will try the raw food diet and see how that works. What sort of timescale should i wait to see a change?

We give our springer a raw food diet (mince meat, veg and cooked rice). The raw food diet cuts down in wind and the amount of pooh and helps to counter any of her allergies. I highly recommend the raw food diet though. if I ever runs out I use harringtons. The main difference we notice right away is her pooh and wind increases!
